Shockwave Therapy

Book An Appointment

Radial shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment for persistent muscle, tendon and soft-tissue conditions. Despite its name, it does not deliver an electrical shock.

A compressed-air handpiece creates mechanical acoustic pressure waves. Conductive gel helps transfer these waves through the skin and into the targeted tissue.

Conditions It May Be Considered For

  • Plantar fasciitis and heel pain
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Patellar tendinopathy or jumper’s knee
  • Tennis elbow
  • Golfer’s elbow
  • Rotator cuff tendinopathy
  • Calcific shoulder tendinopathy
  • Gluteal tendinopathy
  • Bursitis (e.g hip, shoulder)
  • Selected persistent muscle and tendon pain

Potential Benefits

  • May reduce pain and tenderness
  • May encourage local circulation
  • May support tissue remodelling
  • May improve mobility and function
  • Can make rehabilitation exercises more comfortable
  • Non-invasive, with no injections or medication
  • Brief treatment time and minimal downtime for many patients

What Should I Expect?

Treatment feels like rapid tapping or pulsing. Sensitive areas may feel temporarily uncomfortable, but the intensity can be adjusted to your tolerance.

Your appointment includes an assessment, targeted treatment and aftercare or exercise recommendations. Mild temporary soreness or redness may occur. A short series of appointments is commonly recommended, with improvement often occurring gradually over several weeks.

Shockwave therapy is not appropriate for everyone. A chiropractor will assess your condition, review your health history and screen for precautions before recommending treatment.

Ask our team whether radial shockwave therapy may be appropriate for you.
