Red Light Therapy

Book An Appointment

Red Light Therapy—also called photobiomodulation—uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to support the body’s natural cellular processes. Unlike ultraviolet light, it does not tan the skin. The light may influence cellular energy production and signalling involved in pain, inflammation and tissue recovery.

Conditions It May Be Considered For

Red Light Therapy may complement care for:

  • Muscle and joint pain or stiffness
  • Osteoarthritis-related discomfort
  • Exercise-related soreness and fatigue
  • Tendon and other soft-tissue concerns
  • Recovery following certain injuries
  • General mobility and rehabilitation goals

Potential Benefits

Depending on your condition, Red Light Therapy may help:

  • Reduce pain and soreness
  • Support circulation and tissue recovery
  • Improve comfort and mobility
  • Support the management of inflammation
  • Complement chiropractic care, massage therapy and exercise rehabilitation

It is non-invasive, drug-free and generally requires little to no downtime.

What Should I Expect?

Your provider will review your health history and determine whether treatment is appropriate. During the session, the treatment area is positioned near the light for a prescribed amount of time. You may feel gentle warmth, but treatment should not be painful. Protective eyewear may be provided depending on the device and area being treated.

Some patients notice changes after a few sessions, while others may require a series of treatments. Results and treatment frequency vary based on the condition and individual response.

Please tell your provider if you are pregnant, have a light-sensitive condition, take medications that increase light sensitivity, have an eye condition, or have a history of cancer or a suspicious skin lesion in the treatment area.
